Operations Manager at
Westfield Warrawong shopping complex Mr Ian Oliver has found the installation
of a Trethewey HD200A Autobaler to be an enormous improvement in his waste
management system.
"The Autobaler was
first installed on a trial basis and straight away we noticed an increase in the
tonnage of dry waste that our waste contractor was removing. In fact since
using the Autobaler we have documented an increase from approximately 9
tonnes per month of dry waste to 22 tonnes per month", Mr Oliver said.
"This is due to the fact that the Autobaler is easier for staff to use in
comparison to our previous baling system. The staff now put dry waste into the
baler rather than into the wet waste compactor. An added advantage is that the
Autobaler is so simple to operate that even new staff are quickly familiar with
its function and features and use it readily".
Reliability of the
Autobaler has been excellent with only one minor problem after eleven months of
constant operation. Trethewey's had a service man on site and the baler
operating within hours of notification of the problem.
What was Ian Oliver's
overall impression of the Autobaler? "It's a winner".

ANA Hotel The Rocks,
"
The baler has enabled us to
recover and recycle considerably more cardboard and has been a cost effective
and efficient option.
We have also found the
baler to be very easy to use, with any staff member being able to manage the
operation.
Priot to the installation
of the baler, handling of cardboard in the hotel had almost become a full-time
job and we are pleased with the way we have been able to free up our labour to
complete other tasks. The baler has also simplified what was previously a very
tedious job.
We are enjoying a tidier
garbage area with the arrival of the baler and consider it to be an asset to
the department."
Chief Engineer,
Inverell Shire MRF Utilizes Autobaler
Inverell Shire Council in
Manager Environmental
Services Mr Tim Russell commented that the Autobaler had been working all day
every day since installation in September 1999 with only minor problems which
were immediately attended to by Tretheweys. Mr Russell added that the Autobaler
offered substantial savings in capital cost over other comparative equipment
and required less space. There had been no staff complaints or accidents with
the Autobaler as it was simple to operate. Even new or part time staff are
quickly familiarised with the full automatic operation.
Autobaler operator at the
Council Material Recovery Facility Mr Anthony Schutz commented that the baler
was safer than any other equipment he had used and that the automatic
activation of the baler when the hopper was full made it perfect for filling
from bins via a fork lift, this was because the operator of the fork lift did
not have to dismount to start the baler.

HD200 ASF AutoBaler
National Foods Milk Ltd
Penrith Plant is the second largest liquid milk processing plant nationally -
processing in excess of 500,000 litres of milk each day. A major part of the
continuous improvement programme launched in 1999 was to drive to recycle
plastic, cardboard, metal containers, detergent containers and water at levels
above the generally accepted industry standards.
One area of particular
importance was the physical compaction of the HDPE Plastic milk bottles. The
nature of these bottles means that the resin has a strong memory and retains
its original shape even after compaction. Several compactor units were tried
based on the traditional bale type designed with poor results. The problems
encountered centred around the desire of the plastic bottles to return to their
original shape. When the pressure was released in the press the plastic
expanded resulting in difficulties in removing the bale from the press.
The
Trethewey Industries AutoBaler was referred to national Foods as an
alternative. The results were immediate, the ease of extraction of the bale
from the press did not present any difficulties for the operator. The automatic
start and hold under pressure were additional features that resulted in the
baler being located in the material recycle area which is an unmanned area.
Operators dispose of waste HDPE bottles directly into the Trethewey AutoBaler and
when full an alarm identifies the need to remove the bale. Additionally the
skate mechanism that the bale sits on results in the operator very easily
removing the bale from the AutoBaler with no potential of injury and
positioning the bale ready to be picked up by a fork lift.
The Trethewey
Industries AutoBaler has solved several problem areas relating to the
compaction, and subsequent transportation of waste HDPE milk bottles.
The bales of HDPE bottles
are now purchased fro recycling. The National Foods Penrith site now recycles
90% of all HDPE materials used on site thanks largely to the Trethewey
Industries AutoBaler: Model HD200ASF.
